The presence of International Organizations in Geneva (both non-governmental and inter-governmental) and their importance for the city cannot be overstated. Geneva is the European headquarters of the United Nations system, home of the World Trade Organization, ICRC, IFRC, and the International Organization on Migration (to name but a few). It also hosts the secretariats of several international treaties such as the Conference on Disarmament and the Basel Convention. In the vicinity of Geneva are the headquarters of UEFA and the International Olympic Committee. Finally, International Organizations not headquartered in Geneva maintain a substantial presence through a liaison office.
Geneva is, therefore, in the enviable position of providing access to networking and career opportunities in a host of domains, including trade, environment, human rights, and technology or Intellectual Property regulation and negotiations. The IOMBA is conceived as an organic whole around this "ecosystem", in which close contact with these organizations, and hands-on management through the internship are required elements.
