Our students come from all over the world – our Program counts more than 20 nationalities per intake- with the common aspiration to make the difference and to generate impact through their work. It is therefore natural that you can now find IOMBA graduates and alumni in more than 30 cities in the World, between Headquarter Capitals and Field Offices. Thanks to their rich and horizontal education, our alumni occupy a variety of different positions, ranging from project management to policy analysis to technical and management support. The extreme variety and love for diversity of the IOMBA Programme is confirmed by the number of different sectors and industries our alumni work in, ranging from the Development to Humanitarian field, from the Chemical industry to Lobbying and Advocacy sectors. In what follows we present some statistics to give you the flavor of what we are talking about.
Where do our alumni go?
About one third of the IOMBA students stays in Geneva for the first work assignment after the academic part of the Programme; the remainder is fairly divided between the World and Regional capitals of the International Organizations’ Headquarters, such as Rome, New York, Nairobi, Bankok, and the field offices of the Development and Humanitarian Organizations, mostly in Africa and Pacific Asia. 1 year after the completion of the programme these percentages are substantially unchanged; rotation among these three types of location is in fact really common and, given the current job market, the extreme mobility and curiosity for new challenges of the IOMBA graduates, the assignment turnover of the IOMBA Alumni is below 2 years.
Where do our Alumni work?
The IOMBA Programme prepares professionals to become future managers of Intergovernmental Organizations, International Non-Profit and Public Organizations, and International Businesses that work with these organizations. In line with the philosophy of the IOMBA Program, about half of our graduates chooses an Intergovernmental Organization as first assignment. Organizations of the United Nations System are the preferred target for about two thirds of these graduates, followed by Development Banks, the European Commission and Regional Intergovernmental Organizations. About 25% of our graduates decides for a career in an International Company, usually either consultancy firms with Departments dedicarted to International Development/Public Clients or companies with relevant needs for professionals in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility, Public Private Partnerships and Business-Government Relations. The rest of the graduates follows a vocation towards the International or Local NGOs or towards social enterprises. A moderate but growing number of graduates are also able to start their own social enterprise, sometimes with the help by the IOMBA Programme.
What jobs do IOMBA graduates get?
The IOMBA Program welcomes participant with different background and aspirations. Some students come from a technical or scientific background and want to complement their existing expertise with qualified management training. Other students have extensive experience in the business environment and want to apply their skills and knowledge to the International Organizations’ environment. Students with social or political science background want to improve their understanding of business administration functions and tools without giving up their passion for International Organizations. To meet the aspirations of all its students, the IOMBA Programme opens to a variety of job opportunities in many different areas. About one third of the IOMBA graduates finds employment in the project management area, both at heaquarters and on the field. The area of administration and management is chosen by aboiut 25% of the graduates, mostly in the Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Accounting and Human Resource Management functions. Another 25% of the graduates works in the areas of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), Business-Government Relations (BGR) and Corporater Social Responsibility. The rest of our graduates joins innovative organizational development and business improvement functions.
